Oldhamers encouraged to train their brains

This week, in Oldham locals are invited drop in to Highway to Opportunities (H2O) and have a go at boosting their brain and sight power by enjoying a free session with a Nintendo DS Lite.

learndirect and Nintendo have teamed up and are offering the chance for visitors to train their brains and test their skills in the centres using the hand-held consoles.

The event on 20th February is part of a nationwide tour including learndirect centres and is line with learndirect’s overall aim to boost skills in the UK.

‘We are encouraging people to come in, have a go and identify where their skills gap may lie’ explains Jayne Entwistle, H2O director.

Research from learndirect has shown that 13.5 million adults across the UK experience stress as a direct result of their lack of ability in basic skills.

Learndirect offer a range of courses including English, Maths and I.T which can be accessed from home, or from the Learndirect suite at H2O.

‘Visitors to H2O are welcome throughout the day, with learndirect staff available for guidance on the courses available at the centre. Volunteers could even win a luxury spa break if their score is high enough, and we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed that it may be one of our learners!’
