Oldhamers encouraged to learn new skill in 2010

Adults in Oldham are being urged to take advantage of free courses being offered at local employment charity Highway to Opportunities (H2O) to improve their English,Maths or I.T skills

The courses delivered at H2O are tailored to suit your own needs, and there are two I.T courses, aimed at the basics. One of the courses offered is a new 'Online Basics Course' being piloted in Oldham, and aiming to ensure more people can access vital I.T Skills, enhancing their working lives.

The Online Basics course covers five modules, and includes keyboard, mouse skills, e mails, internet searching and staying safe online.

The courses can be done at Highway to Opportunities, on Union Street, or at home, wherever is most convenient and clients can then progress onto an ITQ Level Two qualification, which is an equivalent to five GCSE's .

Louise Day, Highway to Opportunities Manager commented; 'These days digital literacy is as important as basic numeracy and literacy. Learning a new I.T skill can lead to better jobs, improve confidence, and open doors for training opportunities. We also offer courses in Maths and English so if you are thinking of starting something new, or brushing up on an old skill contact Highway to Opportunities and see what is available to you.'

Highway to Opportunities delivers Learndirect and UK Online courses from its Brunswick House offices,. The Centre is open from 9.30-4.00pm and can be contacted on 0161 621 9200.
