Dragons Den opening in Oldham?

A group of women from Oldham are on their way to becoming successful business women after completing a two week ‘Business Enterprise’ course run by local employment charity Highway to Opportunities (H2O)

The free course is aimed at unemployed women in the borough who have a desire to start up your own business, but lack the skills or knowledge to do so.

‘The aim of this course is to give people, with no previous experience, a basic understanding of the issues around starting your own business, and how to go about doing so.

"It’s quite intense because it’s only two weeks and it covers a wide range of business related topics including; market research, developing business plans, and finance management," explains Les Crabb, H2O Manager.

Eight women successfully completed the course, and now plan to put their skills into practice and progress their business ideas in the Oldham area.

"This course has really opened my eyes on how to go about starting up a business. I would like to open a cattery, but before the course I was a bit unsure about whether I could do it - now I feel much more confident that I can succeed" comments one of the students, Jo Davey.

Another student Makisse Nensala added, ‘This course has really boosted my confidence, I feel like I know my target market much better, and now plan to open a fashion boutique. I know that I can always go back to H2O if I need any more help or advice. I would definitely recommend it to anyone thinking of starting their own business.’
